A capacity crowd filled the Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta on Sunday, August 13, to be transported back to the 90s and early 2000s. The A Brief History of Everything Tour is being co headlined by Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows. The bands are alternating who opens each night; Counting Crows was the opener for the Sunday night show in Atlanta.
Counting Crows kicked of their set with their song “Hard Candy” off their 2002 album of the same name. As the night’s opener, the Berkley, California based band performed an abridged 13 song set. Some in the crowd were disappointed when the band did not perform three of their most well known songs: “Mr. Jones,” “Accidentally in Love,” and “Big Yellow Taxi.” Although the band did not play those hits the still had the crowd rocking with a set that included: “Round Here,” “Hanginaround,” “Omaha,” and “Scarecrow.” The band closed out their set with an encore performance of their 1994 song “Rain King.”
Matchbox Twenty, the Alt-Rock band fronted by Rob Thomas, headlined the Atlanta date of the A Brief History of Everything Tour. This tour marked the 20th anniversary of the band’s first tour, so the band played many songs off their original album Yourself or Someone Like You. They kicked off their set with their hit “Real World,” the first song on that first album. Matchbox Twenty played a twenty song set that included songs off of all the band’s albums. The band performed many of their hits including: “Push,” “Unwell,” “How Far We’ve Come,” “If You’re Gone,” and “She’s So Mean. They closed out the set with a three song encore including the one of their biggest hits “3AM.”
