Our Lady Peace have released a new version of the song “Whatever,” which was originally released in 2003 and used as the entrance music for WWE wrestler Chris Benoit. Following his tragic death in 2007, OLP decided to separate themselves from the song and did not perform it live for many years. However, the song is a favorite among OLP fans and is one of the band’s top-streamed songs, so its members decided to re-release it as part of their 30th anniversary “OLP30,” donating proceeds from “Whatever (Redux)” to mental health and suicide prevention initiatives.
“It’s been 23 years since the tragic events surrounding WWE wrestler Chris Benoit and the theme song we wrote for him,” says singer Raine Maida. “We feel that enough time has passed that it was necessary to re-record ‘Whatever’ to help shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness. We hit the studio with Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones, Evanescence) to recapture the energy from the original version in 2025.”
OLP has also released three EP’s throughout the past year as part of the anniversary celebration-each featuring a new song- including “Sound The Alarm,” “I Wanna Be Your Drug,” and “No Angels In This Town,” along with a short film entitled Full Circle (Documentary), which is about the making of the new songs, available to watch on OLP’s Youtube page.
