Barenaked Ladies, OMD, and Howard Jones at The VZW Amphitheatre June 28

A few thousand people were taken on a journey back to the 80s and 90s on Tuesday, June 28. Barenaked Ladies have always created an amazing lineup for their tours and this year’s Last Summer on Earth tour was no exception. The audience at The VZW Amphitheatre was treated to the Synthpop sounds of Howard Jones, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD’s) Electronic-Pop, and of course, Barenaked Ladies.

Howard Jones kicked off his set with his Top 20 hit from 1986 “You Know I Love you… Don’t you?” He next preformed “Like to Get to Know You Well,” during that song he left the stage and walked through the crowd. While in the crowd, he rocked out on his keytar and even took selfies with members of the audience. During his set, he also preformed “Everlasting Love,” “New Song,” and more. Howard closed out his set with one of his highest charting songs “Things Can Only Get Better,” which peaked at no. 5 on the US charts.

OMD lead by front-man Andy McCluskey next took the stage and began their set with one of their first hits “Enola Gay.”  Andy then prefaced their performance of “Secret” by telling the crowd that this was one of the band’s songs from a movie but not the one. They later preformed “If You Leave,” their song off of the Pretty in Pink Soundtrack. They concluded their eleven song set with “Electricity.”

Barenaked Ladies kicked off their set with a short acoustic performance which included “Testing 1,2,3” and “ Brian Wilson.” During the acoustic performance the band’s lead singer, Ed Robertson preformed BNL’s classic show rap which is a mash-up of many songs including, “Lean on Me,” “My House,” and “Love Yourself.” The rap also included a shout-out to Howard Jones and OMD. Barenaked Ladies were joined by Howard Jones during their set and preformed Howard’s hit “No One is to Blame.” Throughout their 18 song set, they preformed “One Week,” “If I had a Million Dollars,” the “Big Bang Theory Theme,” and much more.

If you missed the show, you can see Barenaked Ladies throughout the country on their 13 other tour dates this summer. Visit the band’s official website for ticket information.
