Thousands of people packed the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre on Wednesday, August 2, to rock out for hours. Nickelback is joined on their Feed the Machine tour by Daughtry (a band fronted by Chris Daughtry, former fourth place finisher on American Idol in 2006) and Shaman’s Harvest. Everyone was treated to a variety of rock genres.
Shaman’s Harvest a post-grunge band from Jefferson City, Missouri fronted by Nathan Hunt kicked off the night. The band just released a new album, Red Hands Black Deeds, on July 28 of this year and performed multiple songs off the album in their set. They also performed songs off of their 2015 album Smokin’ Hearts & Broken Guns.
Daughtry began their set with “Go Down,” one of their new tracks at the end of their 2016 hits album It’s Not Over…The Hits So Far. The band had the crowd on their feet for most of their set. Before performing “Life After You,” Chris told the story about how he got the song. Chad Kroeger, the lead singer of Nickelback, called him when Chris was on tour with Bon Jovi and said that he had wrote a song that was perfect for Daughtry, but Chris wasn’t initially interested. After Chad said he was going to give the song to Keith Urban, Chris decided to give the song a shot and ended up writing the bridge for the song and putting it on his second album Leave This Town. During the set, Chris also performed a cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters,” saying that all artists have songs that they wish they had wrote themselves and this was one of his. The band also played a new song “Back Bone,” which will be on the band’s fifth studio album. The band closed out their 11-song set with two of their hits “September” and “Over You” off of their first two albums.
Finally, Nickelback took the stage, kicking off their portion of the Feed the Machine tour with “Feed the Machine” off their newest album. Their set nineteen song set included songs from all across the band’s catalogue. Chris Daughtry joined the Nickelback on stage to perform the band’s hit “Savin’ Me.” When performing “Rockstar,” the band invited two fans onto stage to try to sing the song karaoke style with the band. The band also did a karaoke style of “Hotel California” by The Eagles, having the crowd sing the lyrics while the band performed the track. The band closed out their set with a two song encore performance of “Gotta Be Somebody” and “Burn it to the Ground.”
If you missed the show, you can see Nickelback and Daughtry throughout the country on their remaining tour dates this summer. Visit the Nickelback’s official website for ticket information.
