A Rockstar Circus, both a fashion show and a rock show, was a pre-show event for the 2013 Georgia Music Awards held at Andrews Upstairs. A Rockstar Circus put the spotlight on musicians, entertainers and designers while benefiting the Atlanta Music Project, a charity for young artists. An exclusive VIP cocktail social was held at neighboring Czar Ice Bar beforehand.
Opening the show were the Starlets, whose act is described as “a wee bit of Broadway, a whole lotta Vegas, and a pinch of Burlesque.” The showgirl performance troupe was led by international vocalist Shane Smith. The Starlets performed in feathery outfits, dancing in sync with Asian or feather fans. Their act really got the show going.
Next, electric guitarist Justin Cain played extended solos while two young girls wearing very colorful outfits from Miss Priss Tutus were either chased by Cain and his guitar or danced to his music. The fashion show that followed featured tutus and adult burlesque outfits by Dallas Roe of Miss Priss Tutus as well as outfits by Tracey Fowler of Victoria Velvet, some of which were steampunk inspired.
In between the two parts of the fashion show, music was provided by CMA’s Youth Artist of the Year for 2012, acoustic singer-guitarist 14-year old Liz Lauren. Next were The Roycrofters, a rock band from Gwinnett County (northeast of Atlanta) who livened things up again before the second half of the wonderful fashion show. Angela Reign, who the next night won a Georgia Music Award for Best Female Country Artist, entertained afterwards for about an hour. Then the Starlets wrapped things up by performing two or three more songs.
The Georgia Music Awards and its associated shows were produced by Awards Show Nation.
